Cholera – eu “case” definice

CHOLERA
(Vibrio cholerae)

Clinical Criteria
Any person with at least one of the following two:
– Diarrhoea
– Vomiting

Laboratory Criteria
– Isolation of Vibrio cholerae from a clinical specimen
AND
– Demonstration of O1 or O139 antigen in the isolate
AND
– Demonstration of cholera-enterotoxin or the cholera-enterotoxin gene in the isolate

Epidemiological Criteria
At least one of the following four epidemiological links:
– Exposure to a common source
– Human to human transmission
– Exposure to contaminated food / drinking water
– Environmental exposure

Case Classification
A. Possible case NA
B. Probable case
Any person meeting the clinical criteria and with an epidemiological link
C. Confirmed case
Any person meeting the clinical and the laboratory criteria
